This exhibition explores the performative possibilities of architecture through artwork and the effect on scale when art is used to activate space. Haus-Rucker-Co, the sixties avant-garde architectural collective founded in Vienna, inspired ideas for the theme of the exhibition. The group’s works were made “to expand the cognitive abilities of the user, leading to a heightened understanding of the interrelationship between body and environment.” Inhabiting The Dome is an opportunity for artists to interpret and respond to this unusual exhibition space, an uninhabited shopping centre, a space situated in a forgotten historical department building which once was the height of glamour and high society. The works are bold, playful and modern set against the palatial backdrop of this timeless building. Curated by Cara Mills.
